Liposuction is a common cosmetic surgery procedure that is also often referred to as lipoplasty. Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing extra fat deposits. Disadvantages and Side effects
Temporary Disadvantages
There are also possible complications and negative side effects associated with having liposuction. These temporary factors include swelling (should go away in a month or two), painful bruising, pain (can be controlled by prescription or over-the-counter medication), numbness, limited mobility and allergic reaction.

Longer Term Disadvantages
Some negative side effects from liposuction can last longer or, in some cases, even be fatal. These disadvantages include bacterial infection (caused by small puncture wounds made during liposuction), skin damage, skin necrosis (a very rare but fatal complication), nerve or skin burns, contour issues (bumpy or withered looking skin), disturbing the fluid balance of the body and Lidocaine toxicity poisoning (which in certain cases could lead to cardiac arrest).

Weight Gain
Liposuction does not prevent weight gain, and new weight may accumulate in other areas where
liposuction was not performed.

Body Shape
After liposuction, the body may appear asymmetric or lumpy if fat cells were not removed evenly.

Swelling
According to the Food and Drug Administration, swelling may persist for several months after liposuction, resulting in a lack of improvement of physical appearance.

Pain
Pain or numbness from anesthetics and at the incision site may linger for several months after liposuction has been performed.

Infections
